Peter Guralnick on Elvis, Sun Records and the black and white roots of American cool.

Guralnick (Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley, Dream Boogie: The Triumph of Sam Cooke) is the foremost critic and historian of American roots music, whose work has argued for the vitality of intertwined black and white traditions.  Writing about Guralnick, Bob Dylan commented, “Elvis steps from the pages. You can feel him breathe. This book cancels out all others.” Jackson (Leaving Saturn, Holding Company) is an award-winning poet whose verse “hauntingly reflect(s) urban decay and violence, yet at the same time…rejoice(s) in the sustaining power of music and the potency of community.” Belle Bousoulle will channel Sun Ra, The King and their own funky tunes.
